The following are Values that guide and inform the practices of UOPISA as a strategic Pacific student association. These are Values that represent our collective Pacific heritage and privileged identity as tertiary students. They will outlive the aspirations of individual members and executive committees, as they represent the very essence of ‘Pacific’-ness. The Values are as follows.

Our Values

  1. COLLECTIVISM

    1. The practice of giving priority to a group rather than an individual.

    2. Pacific people operate in a communal setting. This includes teamwork, consultation and engagement with others in a collective matter.

    3. We aim to carry our Pacific students as a collective, to strive for excellence in their student academia and leadership.

  2. RECIPROCITY

    1. The practice of exchanging things with others for mutual benefit.

    2. It is the shared dependance, cooperation or exchange between people or groups.

    3. UOPISA believes that we must acknowledge the value of reciprocity in our relationships and have equal interaction, mutual help and interdependence.

  3. COMPASSION

    1. This is showing support and love towards others. This includes respecting boundaries and the vā between people.

  4. SERVICE

    1. The act of work that can be provided to the best of UOPISA’s ability, for the good of others whether paid or unpaid.

  5. SUSTAINABILITY

    1. The ability for UOPISA to be maintained at a certain level.

    2. We aim to ensure that we are making sustainable decisions that will have a meaningful impact on our association and affiliated associations, so that it will be beneficial in the future.
